Every March and April, flocks of chestnut-throated bee-eaters migrate from Southeast Asia to Yuxi in southwest China's Yunnan Province to breed. Along the Gasa River, birds dig nests in sandy banks while others swoop through the air in a dazzling dive to catch insects. Chicks learn to fly by July or August before migrating south with their parents. The protected species, often called one of China's most beautiful birds, is now flourishing in greater numbers, thanks to efforts to restore habitats.
