Wildfires continued to spread in Otsuchi, Iwate Prefecture, in northern Japan, with more than 3,000 residents urged to evacuate Friday as flames moved closer to residential areas. The blazes, which broke out on Wednesday, remained largely uncontained as of Friday morning, with local media saying nearly 1,200 hectares had burned and eight buildings had been damaged.
