Since the release of the hit Wolf Warrior 2 (2017), Chinese movies have gained huge popularity in Malaysia. No More Bets (2023) set a phenomenal Malaysian box office record of 20 million Malaysian Ringgit (about 32 million yuan or about $5 million), still ranking top among Chinese live-action films in the country, said Choon Kang Chiah, from Mega Films Distribution.

Benefiting from superb production and shared traditional culture, Chinese animations like Ne Zha 2 thrived locally. Choon Kang Chiah said their team is now striving to introduce new Chinese animation films to Malaysian audiences.
