In Hotan, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, over 670 hectares of straw checkerboards have been laid deep in the Taklimakan Desert using a mechanical transport plus manual laying model. By tailoring methods to local conditions including biological control, engineering stabilization and photovoltaic sand prevention, Hotan has significantly improved its environment and plans to complete sand management on nearly 149,000 hectares of land this year.
