Northeast Super League: China's next grassroots football craze

Building on the viral success of China's Village Super League and Jiangsu Super League, the Northeast Super League is ready to kick off.

Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang and Inner Mongolia have jointly announced the 2026 Northeast China Urban Football League, which will open on May 23 with simultaneous matches across eight cities.

Following the grassroots, people-first model of "Cun Chao" and "Su Chao," the tournament blends football, culture, tourism and consumption. Upgraded professional stadiums, affordable tickets priced under 20 yuan and fan zones at night markets are expected to drive local spending and regional vitality. More than a game, it is northeast China's new sports and tourism showcase, uniting four provinces and highlighting the region's energy.
