Shift toward sustainability takes center stage at Auto China 2026

At Auto China 2026 in Beijing, sustainability is moving from a trend to a core focus, becoming a key topic across the automotive industry. ESG, short for environmental, social and governance, is emerging as an important framework for assessing how companies respond to challenges such as climate change, safety, technological innovation and long-term responsibility.

Several automakers at this year's show are showcasing their progress in emissions reduction and outlining their green transition strategies. In its latest ESG report, Geely Auto Group says it has achieved a 25.5% reduction in vehicle lifecycle carbon emissions compared with 2020 levels, meeting its target and exceeding it. The company has also reported progress in new energy vehicle sales, the use of renewable energy in manufacturing and developments in methanol technology, safety and data protection.

CGTN's Merna Al Nasser spoke with Tang Liming, chief product strategy officer at Geely Auto Group, to explore the drivers behind these developments and how sustainability is increasingly being integrated into the design, production and use of vehicles.
