Chinese Language Day: Building a bridge for China-Canada exchanges

The Chinese Embassy in Canada recently hosted a lively celebration for "International Chinese Language Day" on April 20, bringing together about 120 Chinese language teachers, students and enthusiasts from the Ottawa area for an immersive dive into the charm of "Chinese lifestyle."

In his remarks, Ambassador Wang Di noted that the global influence of the Chinese language has been growing steadily, serving as a vital bridge between civilizations and a driver of shared human development. He encouraged more young Canadians to step into Chinese language classrooms, deepen their understanding of China, and experience Eastern wisdom through cultural diversity – injecting fresh energy into China-Canada people-to-people exchanges.

The embassy organized a series of engaging activities, including the "China Impressions" youth painting exhibition, Chinese language open classes, talent shows, interactive cultural experiences, and a tasting of traditional Chinese dishes. Many attendees tried their hands at calligraphy, learned to make Chinese knots and sampled authentic snacks –experiencing Chinese lifestyle up close.

The embassy also presented certificates of honor to local Chinese language teachers who have dedicated over 30 years to teaching Chinese, recognizing their long-standing contributions to promoting Chinese culture and fostering China-Canada friendship.
