At the World Snooker Championship in England, defending champion Zhao Xintong began strongly against Shaun Murphy, only to encounter a rough patch before rallying to tie the match at 8-8 after two sessions of their quarter-final clash.

In this best-of-25 battle, Zhao stormed out of the gate, securing the first three frames with apparent ease. However, momentum swiftly shifted when Murphy responded with a remarkable five-frame run, finishing the first session with a commanding 5-3 lead.

The second session witnessed somewhat of a seesaw battle. Murphy had a golden opportunity to extend his lead early on but faltered mid-visit. Seizing the moment, Zhao took the ninth frame, narrowing the deficit to 5-4. Yet, the next frame mirrored this back-and-forth dynamic as Zhao, having built a promising break from a long pot, missed a pivotal red just as victory seemed within reach. Murphy capitalized, crafting a clearance of 59 to move ahead at 6-4.

As the match progressed, the next four frames were shared, with neither player finding solid footing, leaving Murphy still in the lead at 8-6. However, the latter part of the session saw a resurgence in Zhao's composure. Following Murphy's unexpected miss on a routine red in the 15th frame, Zhao struck back decisively with a brilliant break of 117, drawing within one frame.

The final frame of the session morphed into a tactical showdown. Zhao's adept safety plays forced multiple fouls from Murphy, and he capitalized fully, winning the frame 102-29 to level the contest at 8.

The deciding session promises an electrifying conclusion, as both players will return later on Wednesday to vie for a place in the semi-finals.
