UN facing 'severe challenges': China calls for unity

During a meeting with UNGA President Annalena Baerbock in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that now is the time to reinvigorate and strengthen the United Nations as it faces severe challenges. He said that, amid rising turmoil and power politics, member states should uphold sovereign equality, defend international law and strengthen dialogue to safeguard fairness and justice. In the same meeting, Baerbock thanked China for its long-standing and firm support for the United Nations and the work of the General Assembly. She also said that with multilateralism under increasing pressure and the UN Charter under direct attack, countries need to unite more than ever to support the UN.
