The sixth edition of the Asian Beach Games concluded on Thursday night in Sanya, south China's Hainan Province, with a vibrant closing ceremony at the picturesque Yasha Park, as the night sky was illuminated by a dazzling display of fireworks.

Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Olympic Council of Asia, officially declared the competition closed, proclaiming, "Together, as one Asia, we have made history." His words echoed across Sanya Bay as more than 1,600 athletes from all 45 member delegations showcased their athletic prowess in 14 sports, encompassing 15 disciplines and 62 events from April 22-30.

Host nation China emerged as the dominant force in the medal table, clinching an impressive 24 golds, 18 silvers and 13 bronzes, leading both the gold and overall counts. This edition of the Asian Beach Games also held special significance for Hainan Province, marking its inaugural staging of a continental-level beach sports event, as well as its first major international competition since its Free Trade Port launched island-wide operations last December.

In an impassioned address, Sheikh Joaan praised China for "delivering an exceptional edition of the Games," while also commending Sanya for rising to the occasion and establishing itself on the global sports stage. "I have no doubt this will be the first of many great sports events hosted in Sanya," he added.

The Olympic Council of Asia's flag was ceremonially handed over to Abraham Tolentino, President of the Philippine Olympic Committee, with Cebu set to host the next edition of the Asian Beach Games in 2028.

The celebration culminated with a captivating cultural performance from the Philippines, leading to the extinguishing of the Sanya 2026 cauldron amid the final bursts of fireworks. Athletes and guests then reveled together at a beachside concert, capping off a memorable event by the sea.
