Hundreds of thousands suffered and died as Imperial Japan waged war across Asia during World War II. Among them were Asian laborers forced to build the Thailand-Burma "Death Railway," prisoners of war marched to their deaths in Bataan, and Koreans conscripted to fuel Japan's war machine.

In CGTN's documentary "Unforgotten Scars: Lives Shattered by Japan's Wartime Atrocities," our correspondents report from these locations, to listen, to remember and to ask: What does justice mean when wounds never fully heal?

The full documentary premieres on May 3, marking the 80th anniversary of the opening of the Tokyo Trials.
