Valentin Debise stormed from third to first on the final lap to win Race 1 of the Superbike World Championship on Saturday, securing ZXMOTO's third victory in its debut season.
Starting fifth on his ZXMOTO 820RR-RS, Debise stayed within striking distance as the race unfolded. The turning point came on lap 13, when then leader Roberto Garcia crashed out under pressure from Can Oncu, opening the door for a three-way fight at the front involving Debise and Albert Arenas.
The decisive moment arrived on the final lap. Oncu ran wide at the turn 12-13 chicane, allowing Debise to capitalize. Carrying superior speed through the final corner, the Frenchman completed a late overtake to snatch victory close to the finish line – his first win since a double triumph in Portimao, Portugal.
"I knew this track would be difficult for us, but the team kept telling me to stay patient," Debise said. "I wasn't fully happy with the bike this morning, but they made a small change before the race that gave me much better feeling."
The result lifted Debise to third in the riders' standings on 97 points, behind Arenas (125) and Jaume Masia (106). ZXMOTO also climbed to third in the manufacturers' standings with 99 points.
