China's box office revenue for the May Day holiday, including pre-sales, surpassed 600 million yuan (about $83 million) on Monday, taking about three days and 15 hours, according to film data platform Dengta.

Vanishing Point, Cold War 1994, The Devil Wears Prada 2, Being Toward Death, and No One Is Closer Than We ranked among the top five films during the period, with four of them being domestic productions.

Ticket prices were more affordable this year. The national average ticket price on the first day of the holiday stood at 36.8 yuan (about $5.1), the lowest for the same period in nearly four years.

More than 10 provincial regions have introduced moviegoing subsidies, with over 350 million yuan (about $48 million) in discounts already redeemed, China Media Group (CMG) reported.

Consumption and tourism also boosted the market. In Guizhou Province, moviegoers can claim consumption vouchers of up to 500 yuan (about $69) with ticket stubs for use in sectors such as dining, retail and fuel.

Zhouzhuang Town in Jiangsu Province, a well-known water town in China, offers free entry to visitors holding tickets for Being Toward Death as part of a promotional campaign.

Estimates show that China's film industry chain's total output is expected to exceed 200 billion yuan (about $27.6 billion) in 2026, according to CMG, as the industry shifts toward a more diversified consumption ecosystem.
