US President Donald Trump said Tuesday that Project Freedom, the US military operation aimed at guiding ships out of the Strait of Hormuz, will be paused to see whether a peace deal can be reached between Washington and Tehran. In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said the decision followed requests from Pakistan and other countries, as well as "the fact that Great Progress has been made toward a Complete and Final Agreement with Representatives of Iran."
On Monday, the Iranian military said it had fired warning shots at a US destroyer attempting to approach the strait. The US military said it was carrying out tasks related to assisting stranded vessels.
