The 2026 "Wind Rises, Kites Fly" culture season took flight in Urumqi during the May Day holiday, drawing more than 10,000 visitors. Organized by the Xinjiang Kite Association, the event wowed crowds with a vibrant mix of large soft kites, traditional designs and 150 themed kites handcrafted by local residents. Spanning the entire May Day holiday, the season has included kite exhibitions, children's flying competitions, hiking tours and cultural activities across both outdoor and indoor venues.
