Going abroad can be scary, especially when traveling alone. That's exactly what Slava Klishauskaite felt when she left Russia. Before coming to China, she had heard many stories about how unsafe China was. But is that true?
Slava says no place in the world is 100% safe, but the "gap between the scary image of China that many people carry before coming here" and the reality she has experienced is huge.
For her, safety in China means she can walk or jog alone at night, listening to music, and feel confident that nothing will happen. Once, her earphone case fell out of her pocket, but it was returned to her without any demands. She also often sees people in Beijing casually leaving their laptops in work or study areas, even in cafes.
