Coinciding with spring breaks in several regions in China, this year's five-day May Day holiday saw a significant jump in long-distance travel and family trips, with hotel booking demand for popular long-distance travel destinations increasing by over 40% over the same period last year, according to Chinese online travel provider Tongcheng Travel.
Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu lead the chart for the hottest tourist destinations in long-distance travel, thanks to their rich and diverse cultural and tourism resources and large-scale performances. At the same time, cities like Guangzhou, Nanjing and Hangzhou also made it onto the list due to a boom in sports event tours.
