Tourists recently spotted two pink dolphins in waters off Nan'ao Island in Shantou, southern China's Guangdong Province. The animals were seen swimming, at times racing alongside one another and occasionally leaping above the surface, appearing calm and at ease in their natural habitat. The Chinese white dolphin (Sousa chinensis), often referred to as the "giant panda of the sea," is listed as a first-class nationally protected species in China. Known for its sensitivity to environmental conditions, the species is also regarded as a key indicator of water quality.
