The China women's team marched into the semifinal of the 2026 ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championship Finals, securing a commanding 3-0 victory over the Republic of Korea on Thursday. This followed an earlier 3-0 triumph against the same opponent in the group stage.
Wang Manyu set the tone for the match, delivering a stunning performance against Shin Yu-bin, easing to victory with a score of 11-1, 11-4, 11-4.
In the second match, world No. 1 Sun Yingsha faced a formidable challenge from Kim Na-yeong, who had previously pushed her in their group stage encounter. After clinching the first game 11-7, Sun found herself in a precarious situation, dropping the next two games 11-7, 11-7 and trailing 4-1 in the fourth.
However, demonstrating remarkable resilience, she launched a blistering comeback, winning ten consecutive points to force a decisive fifth game. Kim once again threatened an upset, narrowing the gap from 9-5 to just one point, but Sun held firm to secure the match 11-9.
Reflecting on her close call, Sun remarked, "I think I was not that far away from losing this time. I feel that I can learn a lot from this match. Things will get harder and harder in the upcoming days. So I need to look back at this match and see what I did right and what I did wrong. I think it was a good result, no matter what. So I just need to think about the process and try to learn from it."
The victory was ultimately sealed by Wang Yidi, who overcame Park Ga-hyeon with scores of 11-5, 11-3, 10-12, and 11-2, ensuring China's progress in the competition. China will face either France or Romania in the semifinal.
