Cuba said Thursday that new US sanctions against the country confirm what it called a "genocidal intent," after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced additional measures targeting Cuban entities and officials.

"With the additional measures of collective punishment announced today against Cuba, the US government confirms its genocidal intention against the Cuban nation and clears all doubts on the false nature of its pretexts to attack our country," Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez wrote on X.

Rodriguez was referring to sanctions imposed under Executive Order 14404, signed by US President Donald Trump on May 1, under which the State Department added Cuban companies and officials to its sanctions list.

He said Washington's actions rest on the belief that it can impose its will on other governments, while threatening their citizens and businesses through illegitimate coercion.

In a separate post, Rodriguez called Rubio's claims that Washington wants to help the Cuban people "cynical, hypocritical and false."

He said the measures promoted by Rubio are aimed at causing "the greatest possible damage" to Cuban families.

Cuba has repeatedly denounced the latest US sanctions this week, saying they further tighten Washington's decades-long economic, commercial and financial embargo against the island.
