Valdrack Ludwing Jaentschke Whitaker, minister for foreign affairs of Nicaragua, has said the resurgence of Japanese militarism will never be allowed.

He made the remarks in a recent interview with China Media Group, praising the historical struggle of the Chinese people as heroic and extraordinary.

May 3 marked the 80th anniversary of the opening of the International Military Tribunal for the Far East, or Tokyo Trials.

Noting that fascism caused immense catastrophe in Europe, he said the suffering and heroic struggles endured by the Chinese people in their fight against foreign interference and militarism deserve greater mention.

"The Chinese people displayed extraordinary bravery in defending their country. In fact, this occurred nearly a decade earlier than in Europe, but the media at the time did not adequately report the profound suffering endured by the Chinese people," said the foreign minister.

Following World War II, he said, a number of countries strove to establish a new international order based on international law and consensus.

"Regrettably, more than 80 years later, we see this international order, which was once painstakingly built, suffering from the impact of interventionism and militarism," he said, adding that these very factors gave rise to fascism and militarism, and led to the devastating consequences of World War II.

He added that it is imperative to recognize that the world should, and must, establish a more just and equitable new international order, adding that China will play a leading role to that end.

Through the Global Security Initiative and the Global Development Initiative, China has become a model of leadership, which is significant not only for the Global South but also for building a more equitable and just multipolar world, he added. Noting China's strategy of combining economic growth with technological innovation and proactive diplomacy, he said these characteristics give hope to the Global South.
