China is willing to work with the United States to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, enhance dialogue and communication, create a favorable atmosphere for exchanges at all levels and cooperation in various fields, and strive for more practical achievements between the two countries, Premier Li Qiang said Thursday.

Li made the remarks when meeting with a visiting delegation of US senators led by Steve Daines in Beijing.

He called on the two sides to continuously improve the well-being of the two peoples and to bring greater certainty and positive energy to the world.

Li recalled that in February this year, President Xi Jinping held a phone conversation with President Donald Trump, providing new strategic guidance for the development of China-US relations.

The Chinese premier stressed that practice has proven that mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation are the right way for China and the United States, as two major countries, to get along with each other.

He expressed hope that the US side would work with China in the same direction, choosing more dialogue over confrontation, more mutually beneficial cooperation over zero-sum game, and jointly maintaining stable and predictable China-US economic and trade relations, which serve the fundamental interests of both countries.

Li emphasized that the Taiwan question concerns China's core interests and is the first red line that must not be crossed in China-US relations.

He said he hopes the US Congress will proceed from the broader picture of China-US friendship and cooperation, handle China-related issues prudently, and play a constructive role in promoting the stable, healthy and sustainable development of bilateral ties.
