Friday marks the 79th World Red Cross Day and Red Crescent Day. The Red Cross Society of China has released new figures showing a major surge in disaster response, public first‑aid training and community health investment over the past 12 months.
The Red Cross Society of China activated 228 emergency operations, sent out 2,580 rescue teams and delivered more than 400 million yuan (about $55 million) worth of supplies and funds to handle disasters including the severe floods in Beijing and Hebei Province, as well as the Tai Po fire in Hong Kong. More than 46,000 public disaster‑prevention lectures, evacuation drills and safety workshops reached nearly 14.48 million people.
In 2025 alone, over 6.21 million people completed certified first‑aid training. First‑aid training ramped up sharply – covering schools, communities, enterprises, government offices, transport hubs and rural areas.
By the end of 2025, the national Red Cross system had deployed more than 86,000 automated external defibrillators (AEDs). A pilot "mobile AED" program is now live in eight cities including Beijing and Shenzhen, placing AEDs in ride‑hailing vehicles, while Shaanxi province has launched a "Taxi AED Guardian" scheme.
Over the past year, the Red Cross Society of China provided medical assistance to more than 16,000 children with serious illnesses, including over 12,000 children with leukemia or congenital heart disease, funded by 334 million yuan from the central lottery public welfare fund. More than 200,000 volunteers now serve in local Red Cross blood donation teams. The China Marrow Donor Program (CMDP) added 170,000 new donor records over the past year, and facilitated 2,698 unrelated donor hematopoietic stem cell transplants. About 285,000 people newly registered as voluntary organ donors, and 6,931 organ donations were carried out in the past year.
The Red Cross Society of China said the results reflect a sustained push to strengthen China's disaster resilience and public health safety as the country marks World Red Cross Day.
