British PM Keir Starmer takes 'responsibility' after local poll losses

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Monday that he takes "responsibility" for the Labour Party's poor election performance and also for putting matters right again.

"I know I have my doubters, and I know I need to prove them wrong, and I will," he said.

The prime minister's remarks came amid mounting pressure for him to resign following his party's disastrous local election results. Labour lost almost 1,500 council seats in England and surrendered control of around 40 local councils, including several traditional strongholds.
