Thailand's former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who had been serving a one-year prison sentence for corruption and abuse of power, was released from Bangkok's Klong Prem Central Prison on May 11 after being allowed to serve the remaining four months of his one-year sentence on parole.
The 76-year-old reunited with family members outside the prison and thanked supporters before heading to a Bangkok probation office. He must comply with parole conditions, including wearing an electronic monitoring device, reporting to authorities on time and not leaving the country until his sentence formally ends on September 9.
