Five people were killed and two others injured after a fire broke out in a residential building in central China's Hunan Province early Tuesday, according to local authorities.

The blaze occurred at around 3 a.m. in Lijiachong Community, Yanfeng District, Hengyang City.

The injured are currently receiving medical treatment. Local authorities have launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of the incident and follow-up work is underway.
