In early summer, Dalongdong Waterfall in Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hunan Province, enters its most spectacular time of the year. From the viewing platform, water pours down from cliffs more than 100 meters high, sending mist drifting through the valley and covering the gorge in a dreamlike haze.

When afternoon sunlight breaks through the clouds and shines onto the mist, a vivid rainbow often appears between the waterfall and the surrounding green mountains. The waterfall, rainbow and lush peaks together create a breathtaking natural scene.

From May to August each year, Dalongdong Waterfall reaches its peak viewing season, when water flow is at its strongest and rainbows are most likely to appear.
