American diver Sophie McAfee said in an interview with CGTN Sports Scene's Greg Laffradi that competing in China has become one of the top highlights of her career as she continues to chase her Olympic dream.
Speaking during the recent World Aquatics Diving World Cup Super Final in Beijing, McAfee described competing for the first time at the iconic National Aquatics Center, nicknamed the Water Cube, as a special experience.
"Everyone knows about the Water Cube," McAfee noted. "Everyone wants to dive there or get the chance to compete there."
The 23-year-old also reflected on winning bronze at the 2023 Chengdu World University Games, calling the competition "probably my favorite meet" due to the lively atmosphere and support from fans.
While enjoying her third visit to China, McAfee added that she hopes to learn more about Chinese culture and language, in addition to studying the technique of Chinese divers.
"I think the Chinese divers do a really great job of blending explosiveness and athleticism with elegance and grace," she said.
McAfee added that her long-term goal remains qualifying for the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics, which would hold special significance because the venue is the first pool where she ever trained.
