A new chapter of China-US relations ushered in by pragmatic cooperation

China and the United States have reached an important consensus on building a constructive China-US relationship of strategic stability. This steers the giant ship of bilateral relations onto the right course, and injects much-needed stability and certainty into a world fraught with turbulence and profound transformation.

The constructive China-US relationship of strategic stability embodies four attributes: Proactive stability anchored in cooperation, sound stability with competition kept in proper bounds, steady stability with differences under effective management, and enduring stability underpinned by lasting peace.

It upholds the consistent principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, and is of far-reaching significance for advancing the stable, sound and sustainable development of bilateral ties.

II. Win-win cooperation: Essential nature of China-US economic and trade ties

Facts and figures fully demonstrate the inherent bond of bilateral economic and trade relations. At present, more than 7,000 Chinese-funded enterprises operate in the United States, and around 80,000 US-invested businesses are active in China. The combined GDP of the two economies accounts for over one-third of the global total, while their goods trade volume makes up roughly one-fifth of world trade.

Economic and trade cooperation has always served as the anchor of China-US relations. As China has stressed, its door to external opening-up will only open wider. US businesses have long been deeply engaged in China's reform and opening-up, and China welcomes deeper mutually beneficial cooperation with the United States.

III. Moving forward together: Translating vision into concrete actions

Strategic guidance only gains value when translated into tangible and coordinated actions. Ahead of Trump's visit to China, senior economic and trade officials from both sides held consultations in Busan, South Korea, achieving generally balanced and positive outcomes — a solid first step to implement the new vision.

From the commitment to expanding cooperation areas and properly handling outstanding differences, to advancing exchanges in trade, health, agriculture, tourism, people-to-people exchanges and law enforcement, China has fully shown its sincerity and resolve for steady bilateral development.

2026 marks a pivotal year consolidating past achievements and embracing new prospects for China-US relations. China has embarked on its 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) and is advancing Chinese modernization through high-quality development. Meanwhile, the United States is celebrating the 250th anniversary of its founding and entering a new stage of national development.

By properly handling differences step by step and steadily enhancing mutual trust, the two sides can surely forge a sound path for interaction. The year 2026 is set to be a landmark for China-US relations, drawing on past engagement and opening a new page, as both sides collaborate to enhance mutual understanding and pragmatic cooperation.
