Xi-Trump interactions enhance mutual understanding, bring stability to the world: Chinese Foreign Ministry

Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Friday that interactions between President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump on Thursday enhanced mutual understanding, deepened mutual trust, advanced practical cooperation, benefited the people of both countries and injected much-needed stability and certainty into the world.

The ministry said that Trump is paying a state visit to China, at President Xi's invitation. The trip marks the first visit to China by a US president in nine years and the second in-person meeting between the two leaders since their meeting in Busan last October.

On Thursday, Xi held a welcome ceremony and banquet for Trump. The two leaders also held talks and visited the Temple of Heaven together.

According to the foreign ministry, the two presidents conducted in-depth exchanges on major issues concerning China, the United States and the world, reaching a series of new common understandings.

During the talks, Xi and Trump agreed on a new vision of building a constructive China-US relationship of strategic stability to provide strategic guidance for bilateral ties over the next three years and beyond.

The ministry said the new positioning would promote the steady, sound and sustainable development of China-US relations and bring more peace, prosperity and progress to the world.

It added that the two presidents also reached important common understandings on properly handling each other's concerns and agreed to strengthen communication and coordination on international and regional issues.
