Breast cancer prevention, early detection and treatment are drawing growing international attention as experts worldwide continue to call for stronger global medical cooperation.

During the 23rd World Congress on Breast Cancer and Breast Healthcare held in Tianjin this month, scholars and medical experts from multiple countries and regions exchanged views on cutting-edge diagnostic technologies, precision medicine and evolving approaches to breast healthcare.

Experts interviewed during the congress highlighted a growing shift in breast cancer prevention and treatment toward earlier screening, precision diagnosis and stronger public health awareness. With rapid advances in medical technology, experts believe stronger international cooperation is becoming critical to improving breast healthcare systems around the world.

During an interview with CGTN, Hao Xishan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said China's rapid progress in breast cancer prevention and treatment is gaining growing international recognition, with many treatment approaches now reaching global standards. He noted that advances in both basic and clinical research have contributed significantly to China's healthcare development and global breast cancer research.

As a populous country, China also has strengths in promoting public health awareness, healthcare cooperation and large-scale screening systems, experiences that could provide valuable reference for many developing countries, according to Hao. He added that early screening remains particularly important for women with a family history of breast cancer.

According to Carole Mathelin, president of the Senologic International Society, breast cancer and related breast diseases have become a major public health challenge affecting women's health and quality of life worldwide. She said the growing international participation in the congress reflected broader recognition of China's progress in breast disease prevention, treatment and academic research.

Hao Jihui, president of the Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital, told CGTN that China's growing medical and research capabilities have helped advance breast cancer prevention and treatment while supporting the development of approaches better suited for Chinese patients.

He said China is gradually establishing its own clinical management model, which could serve as a reference for other countries and regions, and stressed that stronger international exchanges could help advance research, improve breast healthcare systems and support younger doctors and researchers.

International collaboration in breast cancer, breast healthcare and broader public health issues is becoming increasingly important in today's interconnected world, as these challenges affect people globally. Continued exchanges and communication help drive advances in medical technologies and scientific research while providing younger doctors and researchers with greater opportunities for international learning and cooperation.

The congress was jointly hosted by the Senologic International Society and the China Anti-Cancer Association and co-organized by the Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital, the Tianjin Breast Cancer Prevention and Treatment Research Center, and the National Clinical Research Center for Cancer.
