The total box office revenue for 2026, including pre-sales, has surpassed 14.4 billion yuan (about $2.11 billion) as of Sunday, according to data from online film platform Maoyan.

This May has seen a string of successful releases, with the film, Dear You, standing out for its exceptional reception, already earning over 452 million yuan (about $66.4 million).

Over 40 domestic and international films are either currently screening or set to premiere soon. Other notable releases this month include the thriller Vanishing Point, the comedy Being Towards Death and international films like Goodbye Julia and Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu.
