"Sand is a good thing too. Don't hate it – learn to love it." On the edges of the Taklimakan Desert in Yutian County in Xinjiang, Jia Cunpeng, Party secretary of the Forestry and Grassland Bureau, has dedicated himself to a project for more than a decade. He leads efforts to level the sand, cultivate medicinal herbs and explore a new path to combat desertification that balances ecology and economy. Amidst the wind and dust, he sees hope for the land and hidden treasures beneath the sands.
