China has taken note of US President Donald Trump's latest remarks on the Taiwan region, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Monday.

"Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory; it has never been a country, and will never be one in the future," Guo said at a regular news briefing when asked to comment on Trump's remarks.

After concluding his state visit to China, Trump said in an interview that the United States is not looking to have someone say "let's go independent because the United States is backing us."

Guo said "Taiwan independence" and cross-Strait peace are as irreconcilable as fire and water, adding that seeking independence by soliciting support from foreign forces leads nowhere, and national reunification is the only path to a bright future.

The spokesperson urged the Democratic Progressive Party authorities to recognize the prevailing trend, face the reality, and rein in their wrongdoings before it's too late.
