Sports at the Roof of the World: cross-country skier Ciren Zhandui

Ciren Zhandui, born in Nagqu, Xizang Autonomous Region, is a Chinese cross-country skier. He won gold at the Asian Winter Games and became one of the first Tibetan athletes to compete at the Winter Olympics. Growing up on the snowy plateau, he rose from the mountains of Xizang to the international stage through perseverance and determination, showcasing the spirit of a new generation of Tibetan athletes.

In this episode, Ciren Zhandui reflected on his journey from being a teenager who spent much of his time on the plateau to an Olympian and Asian Winter Games champion. He talked about how sports changed his life, allowing him to leave his former home, see the wider world, and pursue new opportunities through hard work. 

From winning gold alongside teammates from different ethnic groups to receiving admission to Shanghai University of Sport, his story highlights the opportunities, growth, and transformation of young people in Xizang through the development of winter sports in China.
