May 18th marks International Museum Day. To celebrate, the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region Museum launched a series of themed events featuring diverse formats—including hands-on workshops, immersive interactive challenges, and cultural performances—aimed at making history accessible and bringing cultural relics to life.

At the event site, the hands-on workshop area was particularly lively. Children created fridge magnets and bookmarks inspired by the museum’s collections, such as glazed architectural ornament in the form of a chiwen and horse-themed cultural relics. They also tried their hand at wooden movable type printing—inking the blocks, laying down the paper, pressing it firmly, and peeling it off to dry—experiencing traditional craftsmanship through hands-on activities. Some foreign visitors noted that the interactive activities at Chinese museums are very engaging and help them gain a more intuitive understanding of Chinese culture and history.

In addition to these activities, the day's festivities included simultaneous cultural performances, a history trivia challenge, and a treasure hunt. The treasure hunt, in particular, proved to be a crowd favorite; museum staff members took on the roles of "NPCs" (non-player characters) stationed throughout the exhibition halls to answer questions and offer guidance. Armed with treasure maps and following a trail of clues, participants sought out specific artifacts and completed "check-ins," immersing themselves in a journey of discovery that allowed them to experience the enduring charm of history firsthand.
