China on Wednesday welcomed Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis' recent reaffirmation of the Czech government's commitment to the one-China policy.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun made the remarks at a regular press briefing on Wednesday after Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis wrote in an opinion piece that the Czech government would continue upholding the one-China policy and promote the normalization of Czech-China relations.

"China and the Czech Republic enjoy profound traditional friendship. Mutual respect, treating each other as equals and mutual benefit are important principles in our relations," Guo said.

He added that maintaining steady and sound bilateral relations serves the fundamental interests of both countries and reflects the common aspirations of the two peoples.

Guo noted that since taking office, Babis has on multiple occasions expressed the desire to improve ties with China and reiterated the Czech government's commitment to the one-China policy.

"China highly commends it," Guo said.

China is ready to work with the Czech side to enhance political mutual trust and deepen dialogue and cooperation across the board, so as to bring bilateral relations back to the track of sound and stable development as soon as possible, he added.
