China's Defense Ministry warns DPP 'seeking independence by force' is a dead end

CGTN

A Chinese defense ministry spokesperson on Wednesday warned Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities that "seeking independence by force" is a dead end, while national reunification is the only bright path forward.

Responding to a speech by Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te marking his second anniversary in office, Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson Jiang Bin said Lai continues to cling to the illusion of seeking "Taiwan independence" through external support despite the inevitable trend toward China's reunification and profound changes in the international landscape.

Under the guise of "peace," Lai has aggressively promoted separatist rhetoric advocating "Taiwan independence," incited attempts to resist reunification through military means, and sought to alter the fundamental fact that Taiwan is part of China, Jiang said.

He added that Lai has placed his separatist agenda above the well-being of Taiwan residents, calling it self-deception and a grave strategic miscalculation.

Jiang also said that the Chinese People's Liberation Army will remain on high alert at all times, resolutely thwart any separatist attempts for "Taiwan independence," and firmly safeguard China's national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
