Inside the Potala Palace in Lhasa, over 29,000 palm-leaf manuscripts preserve centuries of Buddhist teachings and cross-cultural exchange. These delicate texts traveled from India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka to Xizang hundreds of years ago. Today, many are cracked, tangled, or fused after centuries of wear. Now, conservators are giving them a second life. Using traditional Tibetan restoration techniques and natural materials like pomegranate seed oil and elm bark, experts are carefully repairing the fragile leaves. At the same time, high-resolution scanners and OCR technology are turning these ancient manuscripts into searchable digital archives. Ancient knowledge and modern technology are how Xizang is turning the page on cultural preservation.
