China's Foreign Ministry on Wednesday reiterated that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory and has never been, nor will ever be, a country.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun made the remarks at a regular press briefing in response to a question about recent comments by Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te.

Guo said the Lai authorities have repeatedly sought to draw attention and create a sense of presence, exposing themselves as "troublemakers" and "destroyers of peace."

"Taiwan independence" is incompatible with peace across the Taiwan Strait, Guo said, adding that attempts to "seek independence" by relying on external forces or through military means are doomed to fail.

The remarks came after the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office also criticized Lai's recent separatist statements, saying they exposed his "weak and deceitful" nature and undermined cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation.
