At the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic will pay a state visit to China from May 24 to 28, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson announced on Wednesday.

"Serbia was the first European country to build a community with a shared future with China in the new era, and is an important partner of China in Central and Eastern Europe," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said at a regular press briefing.

"Under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China-Serbia relations have maintained high-level development in recent years. The two sides have firmly supported each other on core interests and major concerns, with solid political mutual trust, fruitful cooperation outcomes, close multilateral coordination and vibrant people-to-people exchanges," Guo said.

Guo noted that Vucic has maintained close exchanges with President Xi and that this will be Vucic's first state visit to China.

During the visit, President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang will respectively meet with Vucic to exchange views on bilateral ties as well as international and regional issues of common concern, Guo added.

China is willing to work with Serbia to take the visit as an opportunity to further strengthen the "ironclad friendship" between the two countries, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, deepen people-to-people exchanges and enhance multilateral coordination, in order to achieve more tangible results in building the China-Serbia community with a shared future in the new era, Guo said.
