China firmly opposes official exchanges between the US and the Taiwan region, as well as US arms sales to the region, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Thursday.

Spokesperson Guo Jiakun urged the United States to implement the important consensus reached by the Chinese and US presidents, honor its commitments and statements, and handle the Taiwan question with utmost prudence.

Guo also called on the US to stop sending wrong signals to "Taiwan independence" separatists, and take concrete actions to safeguard peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and maintain the stable development of China-US relations.
