We Talk: Taiwan residents affirm shared roots, call for more cross-Strait dialogue and cooperation

Global Stringer

Both sides of the Taiwan Strait share the same roots and cultural heritage. Since the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee announced a package of 10 policies and measures to promote peaceful cross-Strait relations in April this year, even stronger policy support has been provided for closer interactions between the two sides of the strait.

CGTN Stringer invited Taiwan residents to share their understanding of the shared roots of both sides, the cultural connections in their daily lives and their hopes for the future development of cross-Strait relations. Some interviewees noted that the two sides have always shared the same roots and that this bond of blood can never be severed. Others expressed hope for stronger economic cooperation between the two sides so that people's livelihoods can be better secured – after all, a peaceful and stable life is the foundation for economic development.
