A total of 82 people have been confirmed dead and two others remain missing after a coal mine gas explosion in north China's Shanxi Province on Friday, according to a press conference on Saturday.
The gas explosion occurred on Friday at the Liushenyu coal mine in Qinyuan County. The provincial authorities have sent 755 people, including rescuers and medical personnel, to the site.
Six national mine emergency rescue teams, totaling 345 personnel with equipment, have also been sent to assist in rescue efforts, the Ministry of Emergency Management said on Saturday.
A total of 128 people have been sent to hospitals for treatment, and they are not facing life-threatening conditions, authorities said.
The National Health Commission on Saturday dispatched a team of multidisciplinary medical experts to Shanxi Province to provide emergency treatment.
An investigation team sent by the State Council has vowed to thoroughly and strictly investigate the explosion.
The persons responsible for the company involved in the mine accident have been placed under control in accordance with the law, the rescue headquarters said.
