The office of the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters on Sunday dispatched a work team to southwest China's Chongqing Municipality to guide flood control and disaster relief efforts, the Ministry of Emergency Management said.
Three people were killed and 17 others were unaccounted for after heavy rainfall hit Yongchuan District in Chongqing starting Saturday night, according to local authorities.
In addition, two people were also unaccounted for after the rain lashed Beibei District in the municipality.
Rescue and response efforts are currently underway.
China's top economic planner allocated 20 million yuan ($2.94 million) in central budget outlays for disaster recovery and the restoration of infrastructure and public services in Chongqing, the National Development and Reform Commission said on Sunday.
