Jhonder Cadiz proved instrumental for Wuhan Three Towns, scoring twice to secure a hard-fought 3-3 draw against Shandong Taishan on the road in the Chinese Super League.
Ricardo Soares, back in the CSL after stints with Beijing Guoan and Changchun Yatai, made his debut as head coach of Wuhan but faced an uphill battle right from the start.
The match began on a sour note for the visitors as they fell behind just six minutes in. Xiong Jizheng's foul on Zeca inside the box resulted in a penalty, which Cryzan confidently converted to give Shandong an early lead.
However, Cadiz responded swiftly, using a brilliant back-heel pass to assist Gustavo Sauer, who slotted in the equalizer just seven minutes later. The momentum shifted further when, at the half-hour mark, Cadiz was fouled by Shandong goalkeeper Yu Jinyong. Taking charge, the 30-year-old calmly converted the penalty himself, putting Wuhan ahead 2-1.
Just before halftime, Shandong leveled the match again when Liu Yang's cross found Xie Wenneng, who nodded it in at the far post, leaving the score at 2-2 going into the break.
The second half brought more drama. In the 69th minute, Liu Yang showcased his playmaking flair again, assisting Cryzan for his second goal of the game, propelling Shandong back into the lead at 3-2.
But Cadiz wasn't done yet. As the clock wound down, he completed his brace, sealing the draw with two minutes left to play. The match finished at 3-3, leaving Shandong in fifth place while Wuhan languishes in 15th, just above the relegation zone.
In other action on Sunday, Liaoning Tieren delivered a resounding 5-0 thrashing of Zhejiang. Guy Mbenza opened the scoring with a header in the 11th minute and doubled the lead with a spectacular long-range effort shortly thereafter. The Congolese striker completed his hat-trick an hour into the match, heading in a cross from Ange Kouame.
Jeffinho extended Liaoning's lead to four with ten minutes remaining, and Tian Yuda wrapped up a commanding performance with a curling strike in stoppage time.
