China strongly condemns a terrorist attack in Pakistan that has caused heavy casualties and expresses deep condolences to the victims and sincere sympathies to the injured and the bereaved families, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Monday.

According to reports, a passenger train in Balochistan Province, southwestern Pakistan, was hit by a bomb attack on Sunday. As of Monday, the death toll has risen to 47, including 20 soldiers, with 98 others sustaining injuries.

China firmly opposes terrorism in all its forms and will firmly continue to support Pakistan in its counterterrorism efforts, uphold social unity and stability, and protect the safety of its people, Mao told the media at a regular press briefing.

China stands ready to further strengthen counterterrorism cooperation with Pakistan to jointly safeguard peace, security and stability in the region, she said.
