Eleven people were killed after an explosion at a paper mill owned by Nippon Paper Industries in Longview, Washington, local authorities said. They added that nine previously reported missing workers are not expected to survive.

Fire officials said a chemical storage tank imploded at the mill, triggering a massive chemical leak. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
