The Mozambican Minister of Planning and Development Salim Ismael Valá says cooperation with China is helping the country improve agricultural productivity, expand market access and support rural livelihoods through projects such as the "Africa Bridge" initiative.
Speaking to CGTN on the sidelines of the 2026 Global Poverty Reduction and Development Forum in Beijing, Valá said Mozambique faces major challenges, including extreme weather events, limited infrastructure and insufficient financing, particularly in rural areas where most people depend on agriculture.
He said China's experience in agricultural modernization, including mechanization, irrigation, technical training and technology transfer, could help Mozambique reduce poverty, create jobs and support small businesses under the country's Economic Recovery and Growth Plan for 2025-2029.
