Chinese players continued their strong run at the BWF Singapore Open on Friday, advancing in the men's doubles, women's doubles, women's singles and mixed doubles events.
In the men's doubles quarterfinals, Wang Chang and Liang Weikeng needed just 32 minutes to defeat Malaysia's Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik 21-15, 21-15. The victory improved the Chinese pair's head-to-head record against the former world champions to 11 wins in 14 meetings.
Wang and Liang will face Indonesia's Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri in the semifinals.
China also enjoyed success in the mixed doubles, where Gao Jiaxuan and Wei Yaxin overcame Chinese Hong Kong's Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet 21-17, 19-21, 21-13 to secure a place in the last four.
The unseeded duo will next take on Denmark's Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Boje for a spot in the final.
In the women's singles, Olympic champion Chen Yufei fought back from a game down to beat Japan's Tomoka Miyazaki 17-21, 21-17, 21-8 in a match lasting more than an hour. Fellow Chinese star Wang Zhiyi also advanced, defeating Thailand's Pornpawee Chochuwong 21-11, 9-21, 21-13.
Chen now faces world No. 1 An Se-young of the Republic of Korea in a blockbuster semifinal, while Wang will meet Japan's former world No. 1 Akane Yamaguchi.
China's women's doubles pairs also booked their places in the semifinals. Jia Yifan and Zhang Shuxian defeated Bulgaria's Stefani Stoeva and Gabriela Stoeva 21-14, 16-21, 21-13, while Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning progressed after their quarterfinal opponents retired from the match.
Jia and Zhang will take on Japan's Arisa Igarashi and Chiharu Shida for a place in the final, while Liu and Tan are set to face the Republic of Korea's Baek Ha-na and Lee So-hee in the other semifinal.
